Larry Natwick – Jazz Pianist
Larry Natwick is a seasoned veteran of the musical stage, and has played in every conceivable setting from jazz club to jazz festival.
For the past fifty years, Larry has performed in these various venues as a soloist, big band sideman and leader of smaller ensembles, as well as an accompanist for singers, dancers and actors.
Originally from Northern California, Larry studied piano and music theory at San Francisco State University. The rich cultural scene of the Bay Area would prove to be a vital source of inspiration and instruction, leading to more advanced studies with jazz pianists Mike Nock and Kent Glenn.
Larry moved to the Northwest in 1979, and during his twenty year residency played every major festival including “Bumbershoot” and “Earshot” in Seattle, and the Mt. Hood and Cathedral Park Jazz Festivals in Portland.
He performed in many leading concert series including the Jazz Society of Oregon’s “First Jazz” and the popular “Museum After Hours” at the Portland Art Institute.
In 1999, Larry relocated to Dallas, Texas, where he led a jazz trio which worked extensively throughout the area. The trio performed numerous clubs and events as a group and also accompanied several vocalists and instrumental soloists.
In 2001 the Larry Natwick Trio performed at Steinway Hall in New York as finalists in the Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassadors search.
Larry Natwick moved to the Texas Hill Country in 2004 and currently lives in Blanco, Texas. He performs regularly in Austin and San Antonio and also travels around the state for festival and club dates.
His most recent projects have included writing a film score for a short documentary and creating an e-book of jazz piano scales and voicings. Larry’s future plans involve building a studio and creating a catalog of recordings.
